SCHOOL DAY

Parents are asked to see that their children attend school regularly and punctually. The school day is made up of two sessions:

8:55 am to 11:45 pm\12:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. (Reception, Y1, Y2)
8:55 am to 12:00pm\13:00 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. (Y3, Y4, Y5, Y6)

Morning breaks (KS1 and KS2) 10:30 a.m.
Afternoon break (KS1) 2:00 p.m.

On days of inclement weather, children should time their journey to school so that they arrive between 8:45 am and 8:55 am for the morning session and between 12:35 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. for the afternoon session.

SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS AND ORGANISATION

Starting the Day - Security Procedures

Reception to Year 6

This procedure takes into account that the school takes responsibility for all children at 8:45 am. A teacher will be on duty in each playground from that time and all teachers take children into the building at 8:55 am. Any child arriving at school after that time must report to the secretary through the main entrance. Parents\guardians are of course welcome to remain with their child in the infant yard until 8:55 am. If the weather conditions are severe teachers will take children into the buildings from 8:45 am.

Ending the Day

  1. All parents/children must use the pedestrian entrances.
  2. All parents are advised to stay in the infant yard and should not pass beyond the car park.
  3. Please note, we cannot be responsible for children before 8:45 a.m. Children who arrive early should wait on the Infant Yard.
  4. Junior children must use the path in front of the staff room between 8:45 and 8:55 a.m. to access the junior yard or to leave at 3:20 p.m.
  5. Junior children will be led to the infant yard at 3:20 p.m. to be released. Junior parents wait in the infant yard until the class teacher has escorted all children round.

Children in classes Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 should be collected at the end of the day by a responsible adult. A junior child "within walking distance" of school is able to go home on their own if parental consent is given. Please impress on your child that they have responsibility for taking the correct action.

Please remember that an older child cannot be responsible for the safety of a younger sibling.

These procedures are designed to reflect the Health & Safety at Work Regulations of 1992.

Security 8:55 - 3:20 pm

Fire door mechanisms will be in operation on exit 1 and exit 2. This allows exit but prevents entry (except during movement of people at break times when a teacher or dinner lady is on duty).

The main entrance is fitted with a release mechanism activated from within the secretary's office. (Operational between 8:55 am and 3:20 pm). This allows monitoring of people wishing to enter the building especially during lessons.

Parents are of course welcome to discuss any matter with the class teacher at 3:20 pm when lessons have finished and time is available. If any matter is sufficiently `urgent', the Headteacher where possible will release the class teacher.

The Secretary will make these arrangements if you check at reception or by telephoning school 0191 4884400.
