ADMISSIONS

Washingwell is at present a single form entry primary school (4-11) with an intake limit into Reception Class of 20 children. A child may enter the Reception Class during the academic year (September to August) in which his/her fifth birthday falls. Parents of children starting the school in the Reception class are required to bring with them a copy of the child's Birth Certificate to comply with Authority regulations.

Parents considering sending their child to Washingwell should contact the school to make arrangements for a preliminary visit. The occasion gives parents the opportunity to see the school at work, meet the Head Teacher and his staff and raise any questions concerning education at Washingwell. (Application deadline is 3rd November 2009).

The Local Education Authority will consider requests for admission and parents will be informed in April 2010. Where requests for admission exceed the number of places available the Local Education Authority apply the following criteria: -

  1. Looked after children (children in public care and is deemed under Section 22 of the Children Act 1999).
  2. Children who live in the school’s catchment area or who would have a sibling at the school during the coming academic year.
  3. Other children who live in the school’s catchment area;
  4. Children who will have a brother or sister at the school during the coming academic year who live outside the school’s catchment area.
  5. All other children.

Parents of children starting school in September will be invited to attend a meeting with the Head Teacher and Class Teacher in June preceding the September start.
